A new state of the art brain imaging research facility addition was designed as part of a new research grant for the Psychology Department at the University of Missouri. The scope of work involved the renovation of an abandoned former research facility, combined with a new 2,500 SF addition.

During the programming phase it was determined that, due to structural and space limitations within the former research facility, it was best suited for the administration support spaces and that the new addition should house the technical equipment. As a result, the existing interior spaces were completely removed and reconfigured and the renovation included a complete upgrade of the base buildings latest life safety features. The project incorporated key energy saving design elements. Based on projected computer modeling, the heating and cooling loads were estimated to be 1/3 to 1/2 when compared to traditional design.

The design of the center uses the latest advances in non-ferromagnetic construction materials and techniques to assure optimal image quality over the life of the magnet. In addition, the new imaging suite also incorporates the latest developments in MRI Safety and throughput including patient screening and Ferromagnetic Detection Systems.
